UK: New Plastic Packaging Tax from April 2022
As of 1st of April 2022, the new Plastic Packaging Tax will be introduced on the production and import of plastic packaging. The tax is currently announced at a rate of £200 per tonne for packaging predominantly composed of plastics with a recycled plastic content lower than 30%. It will apply for businesses in the UK manufacturing or importing more than 10 tonnes of plastic packaging per year.
The coming UK Plastic Packaging Tax reflects the growing global concern to find more sustainable solutions.
